Welcome to Cardiff Hawks AFL

The Cardiff Hawks club is in it's 50th year in 2017 having commenced in the Newcastle AFL in 1968. In our first season we were runners up in the First Grade competition losing the Grand Final by one point. We have continued to remain successful winning multiple senior and junior premierships over the years.

The Senior Club has teams in three grades of the Black Diamond AFL (BDAFL) competition; Premier Division, Reserve Grade, and Womens. These teams currently play and train at Percy Street Oval Hillsborough on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons commencing at 6pm.

The Hawks also have a strong junior club fielding teams in all age groups of the strong Greater Sydney Junior AFL (Newcastle) competition. These age groups include Under 17, Under 15, Under 13, Under 11 and Under 9 with the club also running a popular and successful Auskick program for younger children which teaches them the fundamental skills of Australian Football.

Since losing their “spiritual” home ground (Maneela Park) in 2006 the club has been in ongoing negotiations with local government and developers for the provision of a new AFL facility. After much hard work by the committee it was recently announced by Lake Macquarie City Council that a new community facility and regional quality ground will be constructed at Cameron Park. This facility has been exclusively allocated (for the winter months) to the Cardiff Hawks club and will position the club as the leading AFL club in Newcastle and the Hunter Region.
